What does Burhan do

Burhan Caca is a wood master based in Bodrum, Turkey. He was born in a city called Izmir but currently living in the city Mugla. He is not a typical wood master. Burhan’s design philosophy

Burhan’s design philosophy has 3 pillars: natural, rustic, artistic. Looking at Burhan’s products, you can easily tell that they all embrace these 3 concepts. “I prefer my product to be more naturally artistic. That’s why I never add excessive decoration on my products as I want to keep as many natural characteristics from the wood as possible.” This is the reason why Burhan’s product can always offer people a naturally raw but artistic feeling.

What’s his passion

When we asked about what is Burhan’s passion, every time his answer is the same: “Wood!”. Burhan actually started his passion in ocean. He loves to spend most of his spare time after school on the beach. After he graduated from his primary school, he started to get in touch and fall in love with wooden yacht as his uncle is quite a famous yacht maker in the neighbour. After that, he started to spend most of his time studying how to make the perfect yacht and of course making the perfect yacht requires Burhan to understand comprehensively the characteristics of different types of wood. Starting from there, wood has become an inevitable part of Burhan’s life. He knows everything about the strength and weakness of different types of woods. “Wood is like human. They also have personalities. You need to understand them well in order to make good products!” Burhan said.

His favourite type of wood

Burhan’s favourite type of wood is olive wood. Most of the Turks believe that “trees” represent “holy” and “peace”. They also perceive olive trees as the “longevity trees.” Therefore, olive tree has a very important spot at most of the Turks’ heart. On its appearance, olive wood has an impressively rich colour pattern, which makes it extraordinary for use in decorative art. Olive wood also has intensely contrasting brown line and yellow streaks. Apart from this, the surface of olive wood is also relatively easy to polish and maintain. More importantly, it is one of the hardest woods on the planet that people normally use olive wood as the material to build different infrastructures or even ships. Because of all of these reasons, olive wood has become Burhan’s all-time favourite.
